A load of cosy babies’ ‘fish ‘n chip’ suits hand-knitted by Goodwin Day Club Queanbeyan members has been gratefully received last week by the Quota Club of Canberra, bound for struggling communities across Africa.
The warm, colourful suits will save underprivileged newborns from being sent home wrapped in newspaper for want of clothing (hence the name ‘fish ‘n chips babies’).
This is the second load of suits donated within 12 months by Day Club members, who’ve clearly been knitting determinedly for many months.
Quota Club of Canberra’s Deb Debenham collected the suits at a morning tea with proud Goodwin members at the Day Club in late September. Through Quota, the babies’ cloths will be forwarded to the Barbara May Foundation.
The Barbara May Foundation was founded to support the work of Australians Valerie Browning AM, and her nephew, Dr Andrew Browning in maternal healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa. The Foundation’s primary focus is safer childbirth for mothers and children in rural areas and poorer communities.
