Till we meet again, Farrer!

It was a day of mixed emotions for Farrer residents and staff, as they bid adieu to the George Sautelle House at a farewell lunch held on 25 October 2018.

The 40-year old facility is being rebuilt as part of the Farrer revitalisation and upgrade project, to bring it in line with the latest clinical care methods, technology, and modern lifestyle facilities, and will be ready to host everyone back by 2022.

“Today we say ‘see you later’, not goodbye, because we will meet again”, said Jo Perry, Manager Operations Residential, in her opening address, bringing much-needed smiles on everyone’s faces. It was the perfect way to kick off the event, as the staff and residents mingled over a sumptuous lunch prepared by our head chef, Sandeep. There was live entertainment planned, but a last minute cancellation by the artiste meant our Activities Coordinator, Trish Jefcoate, had to play the DJ for the afternoon. Within no time, the smiles turned into cheers and the emotion into festivity. The staff rounded off the afternoon by joyously clicking away selfies with their colleagues.

A teary-eyed Mark O’Rourke, who has served as a Carer/Team Leader at Farrer for over 13 years, said, “I can’t imagine life without George Sautelle House. This place is like home to me – the building, the people, the surroundings, everything. I have made so many friends here, and we are like one big family. I will miss it. But on second thoughts…till we meet again!”
