On 8 March, International Women’s Day 2026 invites us to reflect on this year’s theme: Give to Gain.
In the aged care and community services sector, this concept is a daily reality.
Meet the women leading reform, transformation, and service excellence across our organisation today.
Meet the nominees
The foundation of Goodwin was laid on 17 May 1954, by a group of dedicated citizens led by the National Council of Women. Today, that same spirit of purpose is carried forward by the women who lead and innovate across the organisation.
“I am proud to be part of an organisation that is committed to empowering women to lead, grow, and succeed,” says Pauline Hugler, Executive Manager Development People & Culture. “The #GiveToGain theme reflects what we see every day. When we invest in women and lift each other up, we honour those foundations and strengthen the future for those we serve”.
The transition to Support at Home is one of the most significant reforms to aged care in recent years.
Jo Latimer (General Manager Home Care) has guided Home Care through this complexity, translating regulatory change into structured delivery and workforce alignment. Her leadership has strengthened organisational readiness while maintaining continuity for clients.
Culturally responsive care is a cornerstone of a vibrant residential community.
Gaki Zangmo (Activities Coordinator, Ainslie) designs programs that reflect the diverse histories, identities and lived experiences of residents. Her approach moves beyond symbolic gestures to ensure a deep sense of connection and belonging is embedded into everyday engagement.
Operational leadership underpins the safety of our environments.
In property and maintenance, traditionally male-dominated fields, Erin Aveyard (Property Contracts Manager) ensures compliance and site standards are upheld with disciplined attention to detail. By leading on-site operations and breaking industry stereotypes, Erin highlights the valuable contributions women make in operational roles.
Strong clinical leadership anchors safe services.
Rhen Padona (Acting Residential Care General Manager) leads with genuine authenticity, placing residents at the centre of every decision. By giving clarity and fostering a culture of accountability, she reinforces service integrity and builds confidence among staff and families.
Quality aged care extends beyond clinical standards to include daily experience.
Beverly Webb (Activities Coordinator, Monash) pours her energy and creativity into the lives of residents. Beverly is a strong role model and collaborator, constantly developing innovative programs that reflect the diverse interests and abilities of those in her care.
System reform succeeds when teams are equipped to deliver it.
Jessica Cowie (Operations Manager Home Care) led the 18-month implementation of the AlayaCare management system. Beyond the technical rollout, she focused on building capability and confidence across her team, strengthening operational performance and improved care coordination across the service.
Leadership is often defined by growth and the willingness to share wisdom.
Leanne Thompson (Village Manager, Crace) is a poster child for internal opportunity, having grown with Goodwin for 24 years. Since taking the lead at Goodwin Village Crace in 2020, her inquisitive nature and commitment to excellence have driven resident’s satisfaction Net Promoter Score to an incredible +70 in 2025, well above the national average of +43. By giving her knowledge and mentorship back to the wider Goodwin community, Leanne ensures the entire organisation gains from her decades of experience.
Leonie Smith (Home Care Support Worker) recipient of the 2025 Goodwin Annual Award for Care exemplifies leadership through action.
Recognised for her professionalism, knowledge and genuine compassion, she consistently advocates for her clients and mentors fellow carers as a trusted buddy. Embodying the Give to Gain principle, Leonie extends her expertise, encouragement and high standards to those around her, and in return, the entire service gains stronger capability, confidence and continuity of care.
