Goodwin opens doors to its new wellness centre at Crace

The Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP officially opened the new facility located at The Central retirement village by Goodwin on 26 September 2019. The centre is a hub for aging, allied health, and medical services in one location, assisting seniors to remain independent and active for longer.

Following the  plaque unveiling, Goodwin’s Chief Operating Officer Stephen Holmes gave Dr Leigh a tour of the centre. In the spirit of health and wellness,  Dr Leigh took off his suit jacket to try out the fitness equipment. Afternoon tea with the Goodwin community capped off the event.

Jamie Fillingham, Goodwin’s Executive Manager Community Care said, ‘Goodwin’s new health and wellness centre is the only purpose-built centre providing allied health services and an integrated seniors gym within the ACT’.

Everything in the centre is specifically designed for seniors, from the building fit out to the allied health services and group classes. In particular, the exercise equipment (by HUR)  is specifically designed with seniors in mind. Instead of traditional weights, HUR equipment uses air-resistance technology, which makes it gentler on joints and provides a smooth range of motion.

Goodwin’s exercise physiologist, Brayden Murphy said, ‘We see a lot of people with chronic conditions, such as ongoing joint pain. Not only do we help address the specific problems, we’re also able to improve the body as a whole by taking a holistic and proactive approach to people’s health and wellness’.

In addition to exercise services, the wellness centre offers physiotherapy, podiatry, massage and GP consultations, which can also be linked to home care plans where applicable.
