A chance to say thanks on International Nurses Day

12/05/2017

Reflecting on a year of achievements and celebrating our invaluable nurses, Goodwin was an official host of the International Nurses Day breakfast supported by the Australian College of Nursing, 12 May 2017. Goodwin nurses provide high level clinical care across all our live-care communities (onsite 24/7) and clinical oversight of home care packages.

‘Today is about enjoying time together, having fun and reflecting on the year that was. And what a year it’s been!’, said Aged Care Specialist Nurse Practitioner Tamra MacLeod.

‘We’d had reforms in both residential and home care; our research project with ANU into behavioural and pyschological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), the falls project at Ainslie, the new pharmacists-in-residential care pilot, our antipsychotics and benzodiapines reduction project, the new non pharmacological pain management program and massage training, new inhouse immunisations, a new clinical training facility and clinical nurses workshops,’ said Tamra.

Awards went to Shule Tang, Cindy Hansen and Charlotte Bai, for completing the challenging immunisation qualification. Seven more Goodwin nurses are still in the course. The new qualifications allow Goodwin nurses to provide influenza vaccinations onsite, at times convenient to residents and staff – among other things.

Goodwin extends a heartfelt thanks to all of our nurses for the continued dedication to the important and challenging work you do every day, to improve quality of life, quality of care, and the health and wellbeing of our residents and clients.

Finally, we asked our nurses to put in their own words what nursing means to them, to honour today’s #InternationalNursesDay… (click here to see in PDF format.)
