Laws regarding Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) are changing throughout Australia.
In NSW VAD became a legal option on 28 November 2023.
In the ACT, VAD will become a legal option from 3 November, 2025.
Goodwin supports people’s right to choose.
Residents or clients who seek to choose access to Voluntary Assisted Dying services will not be discriminated against, and will be treated with dignity, respect and compassion as afforded to all during their end-of-life journey.
Goodwin provides support to access information about VAD services and to assist with meeting the rights of the individual to access VAD services from an authorised voluntary assisted dying practitioner. Goodwin does not provide VAD services as a part of the provision of residential care, home care services or retirement living.
Goodwin will maintain up to date information on VAD services and will make this available upon request. Residents and clients who choose to access VAD Services will be required to cover all cost associated with the service. VAD is not covered under Medicare or Private Health Insurance.
Goodwin provides extensive training to staff, and can provide fact sheets and up-to-date information on request.
