Ways to access Goodwin’s home care services

There are several ways to access home care services, depending on your needs and eligibility.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) delivers entry-level support for people who just need a little help with a few tasks in their homes or out in the community.

Services can be delivered on a short-term, episodic, or ongoing basis and have a strong focus on activities that support independence, wellness, and reablement.

This program is funded by the Australian Government.*

Home Care Package

Home Care Packages (HCP) support people worth more complex needs.

Packages are divided into four needs-based levels, each with a different level on funding assistance, which is updated annually on 1 July.

  • Level 1 – basic care needs
  • Level 2 – low-level care needs
  • Level 3 – intermediate care needs
  • Level 4 – high-level care needs

Your level of care is determined by the government’s Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT).

This program is funded by the Australian Government.*

Private services

You can access Goodwin home care services independently at any time without government funding through a fee-for-services arrangement with Goodwin.

This arrangement can occur on its own, in conjunction with other services, or while you are waiting for a government-subsidised package to be processed.

This is a great way to start receiving services immediately.

*Receiving government funding for home care assistance can take considerable time, so we recommend getting started early.

Understanding finance

How much does home care cost?

The size and cost of your home care can depend on:

  • Your Government-subsidised contribution
  • Your additional contribution as determined by Government means testing
  • The services you wish to receive
  • The hours of service you wish to receive
  • Your basic daily care fee
  • Your hardship supplement (if applicable)
  • And potentially other factors.

Because of these factors, there is no one-size-fits-all price that can be applied to everyone. However, if you’re interested in private services, we can provide you with a quote based on your needs.

Government contributions

Government contributions also differ depending on your needs. Home Care Package (HCP) support can range from:

Level 1 – approximately $8,750 a year
Level 2 – approximately $15,250 a year
Level 3 – approximately $33,500 a year
Level 4 – approximately $50,750 a year

The basic steps to getting home care

1  Contact Goodwin

We’ll explain the Australian home care system and how to make it work for you, listen to your needs, and help you with the government process and forms to apply for funding for your care.

2  Get assessed

Because home care packages are government subsidised, the level of funding you get depends on an assessment by the government’s Aged Care Assessment Team (an ACAT assessment). It’s free and conducted in your home or hospital. Goodwin can help you arrange this.

3  Receive your letter of approval and go on the national wait list

You will receive a letter from My Aged Care (the government’s aged care portal) confirming if you are eligible for a home care package and to what level of care and funding. You will be placed on a national priority queue and be contacted when a suitable package becomes available to you. While you are waiting for approval, you can access Goodwin services on a private fee-for-service basis.

4  Reach the top of the queue and get your referral code

When your package is allocated to you, you will receive another letter from My Aged Care, with details of your home care package and your unique referral code.

5  Contact Goodwin and start receiving services

You will have 56 days to take up your package with your chosen care provider, from the date of the above letter. In this period, come back to Goodwin so we can get to work on your tailored care plan, ensure your care budget is working its best for you (see the case studies in this brochure for ideas!), and start delivering your services.

Not eligible for a government package? You can still get help.

If your letter from My Aged Care tells you you’re not eligible for home care package funding, you can still access home care services through Goodwin on a private fee-for-service basis, or through the alternate funding program for lower level care, the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. Ask us for details.
