Why choose Goodwin?
When you choose Goodwin, you are choosing multi-award winning, quality aged care services and accommodation.
For over 60 years, our community-based, not for profit organisation has been providing the Canberra and regional community with experience-driven independent living villages, reliable and innovative in-home community care, and superior standard residential aged care facilities.
Have peace of mind knowing that no matter what services you are receiving from Goodwin, quality is at the core of everything we do.
Goodwin is about quality of life for our residents, and quality of product. We emphasise a safe community environment, and services that make life more enjoyable and comfortable.
We built our first units in Canberra in the 1960s and we’ve been refining and improving both our building design and our lifestyle services ever since.
We absolutely adore our unit. Family, friends and grandchildren also love it, and our grandson wants to move in!
Our Monash Village won the award for Australia’s Best Retirement Living Development at the 2015 National Property Council of Australia’s Innovation and Excellence Awards. It was also awarded the 2015 Property Council of Australia’s ACT Development of the Year.
During its development between 2008 and 2012 our Ainslie village received 21 awards including the MBA’s Special Purpose Housing Development of the Year, and the HIA’s Apartment Development of the Year (ACT & Southern NSW Region).
The Central by Goodwin at Crace, and our proposed redevelopment of Goodwin Farrer, are both designed based on our experience of these developments and our mission for continual improvement.
We build to last
Goodwin invests in developing its own villages and apartments, and we take responsibility for your home maintenance – so we have a vested interest in quality construction, and finishes that will stay strong and looking good for as long as possible.
Supporting you as your needs change
Goodwin’s network of aged care services and facilities means we can support you as your needs change. Our apartments and villas are built to adaptable building code, and all our residents can access Goodwin in-home care services including respite care and social Day Clubs, for an additional fee.
Places in our residential care facilities are subject to availability and eligibility. Should a transition be possible, your move into a Goodwin Residential Aged Care Facility can occur with familiar faces and in surroundings that you and your family are comfortable in.
Goodwin is synonymous with high quality aged care. We have provided care to seniors since 1954, continually meeting accreditation standards, and winning awards for our developments.
Our architect-designed facilities combine the best of contemporary design with an atmosphere that is at once homely, safe and stimulating.
All of our residential care facilities are visited regularly by doctors, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals. All are easily reached by transport and welcome visits from family and friends.
Australian Aged Care Quality Agency
Goodwin‘s people are very impressive, and you should be proud of them, they know the residents and their roles very well, enabling them to provide the highest level of care, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
We will work with you to develop an individual care plan to ensure the most appropriate care, with consideration to your closest relationship, personal preferences, spirituality and culture.
We encourage families to have input into care planning by helping us with insights into your interests, passions, the people who mean most to you, and the little things the way you like them.
Nursing and care staff are available 24 hours a day, and we offer additional initiatives for deeper care services such as our Registered Nurse Clinics.
Supporting you as your needs change
Dedicated high-care and dementia care services are available to residents (some services are subject to vacancies).
We will work closely with residents and families/guardians to ensure a smooth transition to a dedicated dementia care place, if the need arises. Where possible, we will work to place you within the same Goodwin facility as a first priority, where you can remain with the community and carers with whom you are familiar.
Large, professional workforce
We have a large and highly professional care workforce. This includes Registered Nurses, Endorsed Enrolled Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Governance & Quality Assurance staff, care staff with formal certificate qualifications and care staff undergoing extensive and relevant training.
Activity staff members are specially trained and understand the importance of inclusiveness, while always being sensitive to the needs of each individual.
At Goodwin, we focus on staff training so that you can be assured that the standard of care provided is second to none. In addition to our emphasis on clinical excellence, we also ensure that our workforce is appropriately trained in occupational health and safety, in cultural diversity and in personal care procedures.
At Goodwin, we have a focus on continuous improvement so we can continue to be at the top of the field in aged care services.
Goodwin is a not-for-profit aged care specialist that has been helping to bring quality of life to seniors in Canberra for more than 60 years.
We will meet with you face to face. Goodwin will work closely with you, and/or your family or chosen advocate, to develop an individualised plan of home care. Interpreter services are available. Visiting in person also allows us to create emergency safety plans based on your home layout and surrounds.
